Joel Hans Embiid is a professional basketball player who plays for the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA. Born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, he initially played volleyball and soccer before focusing on basketball in his teens. He moved to the United States at age 16 to pursue his basketball career. Embiid played one season of college basketball for the Kansas Jayhawks. He was selected third overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2014 NBA draft. Due to foot and knee injuries, he missed his first two seasons entirely. Since his debut in 2016, he has established himself as one of the most dominant centers in the league. He was named the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the 2022-2023 season. Embiid is a multi-time NBA All-Star and has earned multiple All-NBA Team selections. He is known for his versatile offensive skill set, including a reliable mid-range jumper and post-scoring ability. In 2022, he became a French citizen and later obtained American citizenship.
