John Boyega is a British actor and producer who rose to international prominence for his role as Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. He was born in the London Borough of Lambeth to Nigerian parents. Boyega began his acting career at a young age, training at the Identity School of Acting in London. He made his feature film debut in the 2011 science fiction comedy Attack the Block, which earned him critical acclaim. Following his breakout, he appeared in various television projects before landing the role of Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015. He reprised this role in The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Beyond the Star Wars franchise, he starred in the 2017 film Detroit, directed by Kathryn Bigelow. In 2020, he received widespread praise for his performance as Leroy Logan in the Small Axe anthology series episode Red, White and Blue. He won a Golden Globe Award for this role. Boyega is also known for his vocal advocacy regarding racial equality and his participation in the Black Lives Matter movement. He founded his own production company, UpperRoom Entertainment Limited, in 2016. He continues to work on diverse film projects, including the 2022 film Breaking and the 2023 film They Cloned Tyrone.
