Rachel Zegler is an American actress and singer who rose to prominence after being cast as Maria Vasquez in Steven Spielberg's 2021 film adaptation of West Side Story. She was selected for the role from over 30,000 applicants after submitting a video of herself singing on Twitter. Her performance in the film earned her critical acclaim and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. Following her breakout role, she appeared as Anthea in the DC Extended Universe film Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
