📖 Scott Stevens Biography
Scott Stevens is a retired professional ice hockey defenseman who played 22 seasons in the National Hockey League. He spent the majority of his career with the New Jersey Devils, where he served as team captain for many years. Known for his physical style of play, he is widely considered one of the greatest defensive defensemen in NHL history. Stevens began his career with the Washington Capitals after being selected fifth overall in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. He later signed with the St. Louis Blues before joining the New Jersey Devils in 1991. During his tenure with the Devils, he led the team to three Stanley Cup championships in 1995, 2000, and 2003. He was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the 2000 Stanley Cup playoffs. Throughout his career, he was named to the NHL All-Star team multiple times and earned several selections to the All-Star Game. After retiring from professional play, he transitioned into coaching roles within the NHL. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007 in his first year of eligibility.
