Suraj Sharma is an Indian actor who gained international recognition for his debut role as Pi Patel in the 2012 film Life of Pi. He was born in New Delhi, India, to a software engineer father and an economist mother. Before his acting career, he was a student at St. Stephen's College, Delhi. He was selected for the role of Pi Patel out of 3,000 auditioning actors by director Ang Lee. His performance in Life of Pi earned him critical acclaim and a nomination for the BAFTA Rising Star Award. Following his breakout success, he appeared in the film Million Dollar Arm in 2014 alongside Jon Hamm.
