Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is an American hurdler and sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter hurdles. She is widely considered one of the greatest track and field athletes of all time. McLaughlin-Levrone first gained national attention as a teenage prodigy, qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics at age 16. She attended the University of Kentucky for one year before turning professional in 2018. Throughout her career, she has consistently broken her own world records in the 400-meter hurdles. She won her first Olympic gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In 2022, she became the first woman to break the 51-second barrier in the 400-meter hurdles. She successfully defended her Olympic title at the 2024 Paris Olympics, setting a new world record of 50.37 seconds. In addition to her individual success, she is a multiple-time Olympic and World Championship gold medalist in relay events. She is known for her exceptional technique and dominance in her signature event. Off the track, she has authored a memoir titled 'Far Beyond Gold'.
