Billy Corgan is an American musician, songwriter, and producer best known as the frontman and primary songwriter of the alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins. He formed the band in Chicago in 1988 alongside guitarist James Iha, bassist D'arcy Wretzky, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. Under his leadership, the band achieved massive commercial success in the 1990s with albums like Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Corgan is known for his distinctive vocal style and his intricate, layered guitar work. Beyond his work with The Smashing Pumpkins, he has released solo albums under his own name and the moniker William Patrick Corgan. He also formed the alternative rock supergroup Zwan and the band Spirits in the Sky. In 2011, he founded the independent professional wrestling promotion National Wrestling Alliance, which he later purchased in 2017. Throughout his career, he has been a polarizing but highly influential figure in the alternative rock genre. He has authored a book of poetry titled Blinking with Fists and a memoir titled Confessions of a Scryer.
