Born Erika Mitchell in London, she worked as a television executive before pursuing a career in writing. She initially gained fame by writing fan fiction based on the Twilight series under the pen name Snowqueens Icedragon. The Fifty Shades trilogy, which began as fan fiction, became a global publishing phenomenon, selling over 150 million copies worldwide. The books explore the complex relationship between college graduate Anastasia Steele and billionaire Christian Grey. Due to the massive success of the series, she was named one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2012.
