Shobana Chandrakumar Pillai is a highly acclaimed Indian film actress and Bharatanatyam dancer. She primarily works in Malayalam cinema, though she has also appeared in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and English films. Shobana made her acting debut as a child artist in the 1980 film April 18. She gained widespread recognition for her performance in the 1984 film April 1. Throughout her career, she has won two National Film Awards for Best Actress. Her first National Award was for the film Manichitrathazhu, which is considered a cult classic in Indian cinema. Beyond her film career, she is a renowned exponent of the Bharatanatyam dance form. She runs a dance school named Kalarpana in Chennai, which promotes classical dance and music.
