Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis is a Swedish-American pole vaulter widely considered the greatest athlete in the history of the event. He was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, to a Swedish mother and an American father who was also a pole vaulter. Duplantis began vaulting at a very young age and quickly broke numerous age-group world records. He chose to represent Sweden, his mother's home country, in international competitions. He won his first major senior gold medal at the 2018 European Championships in Berlin. In 2020, he broke the world record for the first time in Toruń, Poland. He secured his first Olympic gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Duplantis successfully defended his Olympic title at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he also set a new world record. He is a multi-time World Champion and Diamond League winner. Throughout his career, he has broken the world record for the pole vault more than ten times.
