Chaz Bono was born to famous entertainers Sonny Bono and Cher in Los Angeles. As a child, he appeared frequently on his parents' television variety show, The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. He began his own musical career in the late 1980s with the band Ceremony. In 1998, he published his first book, Family Outing, which detailed his experiences coming out as a lesbian. Bono later became a prominent advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and served as a spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign. He began his gender transition process in 2008 and legally changed his name and gender in 2010.
